Stay

We camped, of course!

This was the theme of all the vacays we took this year: camping. Since it's not something I am accustomed to, we acquired more gear and smarter habits with each trip. We stayed at the Chain-O-Lakes Campground right off the highway in Bellaire long before you ever get into town. In a departure from our family camping trip a few weeks prior, this time, we stayed at a privately owned campground. Admittedly, it was more than what I expected (Yes, Brittney, the pessimist). The place had an unspoken charm, from the goats and chickens to the owner, who lives with her family on site, to the brightly colored cabins next to us. It had its pros and cons. Despite the fears behind what you read, the owner was friendly, and the chickens/goats were fun to see! It was a bit of an awkward campsite, but it was perfectly fine since we had rolling thunderstorms through the valley we were in both nights. At least our tent is a pro at keeping us DRY!

Pro’s

  • They had a list of nightly snacks available for campers on select nights, including popcorn, ice cream, breakfast options, and more. It’s a nice touch!

  • Although we didn’t use it, the outdoor pool on site looked fairly well maintained.

  • The tent site was inexpensive compared to the others in the area.

Con’s

  • Imagine…your campsite is in a valley, pouring down rain. You’re in a tent, and a rolling thunderstorm comes through. No one can subdue Mother Nature, but a little campsite planning would have helped.

  • Anytime anyone would go 1 mile over 5 miles an hour, the owners would scream slow down from their porch. We were VERY close to the yelling at a small campground such as this one. Kind of annoying.

  • The bathrooms were like something out of an 80s movie: two tight single-stall showers, two toilet stalls, and one sink in the women’s restroom.

Always A Pro!

I’m a 4-year-old at heart! The animals were just so darn cute in their pen on the other side of the cabins. I went over a couple of times just to say hi and hang out.

Overall, would we stay there again? No.

Was it a terrible experience? Also, No.

I just feel that there are potentially better places to camp in the area.

This one worked for the time we had!
