Sailing the High Seas with Disney

Onboard the Disney Magic

Whoa, wait, did you say you sailed on the Disney Magic?

If you've ever looked at the Disney cruise lineup, you'll know that the newest ship sailing at the time of writing this is the Disney Wish; the Magic is the oldest ship in the fleet. This was intentional. I don't want the new and fancy, I want to know how it feels and how upkept ole reliable is. Plus, a smaller ship = less overwhelm.

Launched in 1998, the Disney Magic was unlike any other ship at the time. It boasts 11 decks full to the brim with both nautical and, specifically, Disney touches. I see Mickey's hands on the elevators and hidden Mickey's in the art nouveau style of the ship around every turn. It's so classy in the way it's portrayed.

It was just pretty everywhere you turned.

The artwork adorning the stairwells, the blue carpet, and the transitions from one area to the next. Just breathtakingly gorgeous. Also, shout out to the hosts and hostesses around every turn. Whoops, kiddo dropped popcorn; you can believe it was being cleaned up within 15 minutes, the railings were dusted and shined every day, and every one of the cast members was so kind with their dedication to keeping it in tip-top shape.

For the young ones…

Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab areas offer nearly an entire deck's worth of youth clubs, craft spaces, and cinemas tailored specifically for cruisers aged 3-12. They even have a unique portal you can walk through from the club to the Lab without leaving the kid's area on the ship. Seriously, they thought of everything. Plus, the handwashing stations are GENIUS! Disney needs to share those with the entire world. Imagineering at its best. There are even private video game rooms!

Don't think that other kid's areas are left out. Babies can hang out in the Small World Nursery, tweens in Edge, a club just for them, and teens in Vibe. These places are monitored around the clock and have a full range of activities to keep kids busy. Seeing them fun-overloaded after a night of karaoke till midnight in the kids' club was quite the spectacle at breakfast.

The whole ship was just…well... magical!
