The Big Easy

Eating Around NOLA

New Orleans is about the food. It's warm, comforting, and relatively cheap. Seasoned well, with no frills, just come in and get something tasty. No formality, pomp, or circumstance, just good eats, leaving you full from one meal to another.

Breakfast

Three Chicks is a quaint breakfast spot known for its comforting Southern fare. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the welcoming smile of the staff set the stage for a morning of stuffed indulgence. You know you will be in for it from the moment you walk in. I had the French Toast with strawberries and bananas, which came out in layers and ordered a made-to-order green juice (tasty and necessary for the amount of food I ate in NOLA). My other half got this lush breakfast skillet that seemed to multiply as he ate it. An inexpensive but excellent way to start the day.

Lunch

Acme Oyster Company is a darker bar vibe that is about simplicity and authenticity. Now I know what you're thinking: I'm a vegetarian; what am I doing at an oyster bar? Acme, though, isn't just about the food; it's about being a part of a tradition that has been around for generations and is connected to the soul of a place. I was positive I could find something on the menu. My other half got oysters, and he said, hands down, they were the best seafood: fresh, cooked well, and delicious. I got the house-made veggie burger (I told ya I'd find something), and it was DELICIOUS. Like, who knew?

  • The server promptly informed us as we sat down, saying they have one grill, so food takes some time, but it's good when it comes out. This can be a put-off for some, but we were in no hurry, so we waited, and it was well worth it!

Dinner

Carmo is a hidden gem tucked away in the Warehouse District. The eclectic menu, boasting flavors from around the globe, intrigued my adventurous palate, especially since they specialize in vegan-friendly options. I had the Quinoa Sweet Potato Fritters, Brazilian Cheese bread, and Rico dishes, and my husband ordered the Trifongo. Everything was SPOT on.

Food was fresh, made with good ingredients, hardy, and worth the price at every turn! You're definitely not going hungry down in New Orleans!
