February 2024 - Carrying On At Home

Hey Peeps,

February brings all the thoughts of love. We celebrate Valentine's Day, Black History Month, and Ash Wednesday this month. Each has its own title and purpose, but the echo of love runs deep. In the dance of daily life, we find solace and joy in the moments we share together. Yet, there's pure magic beyond the routine discovered in our journeys together.

Our travels and the stories they elicit are not just about places; they're the threads binding us closer. Threads of being reminded of our love and how we choose to express that love with another. Threads as we celebrate one race's culture and rich history and how it impacts another. It's a departure from the mundane, embracing life's spontaneity. The whole experience is a calling that mirrors the resilience and determination we bring to our family journey. Through highs and lows, we've learned that our bond thrives not in perfection but in shared authentic experiences.

Ultimately, it's not about the miles; it's about the love that grows, one journey at a time.

Yours Always,

Britt

Travel with Me

Speaking of the crazy that is day-to-day life, let me share something about me... I make it a point to embark on a mini vacation – a deliberate effort to break free from the monotony and seek new perspectives - every single month. I know it sounds ludicrous, and let me make it abundantly clear that we are not loaded. Still, travelling gives me a sense of perspective that's just a necessity for my well-being at this point. So, whether the destination is far-flung or just a stone's throw away, the experience is always worth the journey and is planned for.

Travelling is a love letter to me; the whole experience adds layers of depth and meaning to my life in a way nothing else can.

As we step into Black History Month, my chosen destination of the month is none other than Detroit – a city pulsating with cultural vibrancy and historical significance.

And then...

I'm headed to NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana)! Seriously, I'm so excited. I have been tracking our family tree for what seems like forever, and when I saw Louisiana pop up, I was intrigued. I aim to visit every place I can where my family stepped foot. That part of our history is essential to me. NOLA has been on the places to visit list for a while, and I'm excited to get a chance to go down and check it out.

Cafe Du Monde in the French Market, hanging out in the French Quarter. Oh, I'm pumped thinking about it! I have been planning outfits for a month; I am ready, Ya'll! New Orleans is getting a lot of hype lately as a remarkable small city to visit for a cheaper experience. A different vibe adds to the thrill, so trust and believe it will be a feature for March (always looking ahead).

Speaking of travel...

Business has been busy over here, and it makes my heart soar. It means the world to me to get my little travel business up and running, and January was BUSY! Let's keep that adrenaline going all year. I've found my calling in this. It brings me immeasurable joy to know someone out there is having a great time on a trip I helped plan. It's cheesy, but I love it. So, as I'm sending out proposals and getting everyone booked, I have been asking for a review. As these reviews come in, keep me in all the happy tears. I'm so grateful! Thank you!

Speaking of which, I can't leave anyone out.

If you subscribe to my monthly newsletter and engage with me on social media all month, you will be entered into a drawing for a unique gift directly from the cruise!

We're talking about a SURPRISE Disney exclusive; you'll. Sign up and tell your friends. It's FREE, and we all love FREE!

February Basics:

Wrapping up the news each month, I'll share my basics. The basics are the things I love for the month and why I adore them. Think about what I'm reading and wearing, places I love to travel to, my playlist, and just the month's vibe. So, without ado...

  • Reading - Did you hear about Kitty Karr? Imagine an old Hollywood white movie icon who suddenly dies and leaves her multimillion-dollar estate to three young wealthy Black women. Naturally, it brings up some questions. Lots of questions. I'm into it, I'm not done, but this is like reading a soap opera, and I'm here for it. Afterwards, I'll take a novel break and read some poetry (I keep Nikita Gill on standby). If you have book suggestions, feel free to email me or D.M. me; I'm always down for a good idea.

  • My favorite hotel this month, Shinola Detroit, is just so trendy but effortlessly cool in all its parts. The whole vibe is just someplace you want to hang out. Plus, the central location and Parker Alley make it a destination in and of itself in downtown Detroit. You wanna go? I know a girl who can hook you up.

  • Watching - OK, Don't laugh - Bluey calms my soul & we are rewatching Downton Abbey. Something about the adult undertone of Bluey keeps me entertained; it's a thing in my house, even if we are WAY past that age. Before you even ask, my favorite Bluey episodes are The Claw, the Wagon, and The Pool. On the other hand, Downton is because when we first watched it, bug was too young, and she LOVES period films, so why not?

  • Listening - Affirmations for Black Girls on Apple Podcast. I absolutely love it as I work and do the day-to-day. I've been in a definitive mood. Song-wise, I love Every Kind of Way by H.E.R., Risk It All by Usher, Selfish by Justin Timberlake, and Better With You by Pink Sweats (he's a whole vibe). Something about the soft R&B keeps me coming back.

  • Try Me - I may be reverting to my teenage days in the '90s, but I LOVE that wide leg is back in style. Can we agree that skinny just isn't for everyone? Also, these knockoff F.P. Movement coveralls still have a hold on me. They are so incredibly comfy. I’m up to 3 pairs.

Annnd...that's it: February, a little Disney, a little love, and a lot of fun. Pass this along, and if you still need to be added to the newsletter list, sign up at the link below. This giveaway is going to be SO GOOD!
